David,
I had the pleasure of being a part of your concert in Washington DC last week for the opening of the National Brain Tumor Conference. Your music, your words, your calm delivery were a sort of medicine all on its own. My Dad was diagnosed with GBM Grade 4 in September 2009. It felt like we were hit by a truck. Life has been just a series of highs and lows ever since. You were one of the very best highs. When you finished my mom came over and just put her arms around my dad and held him. It was beautiful. You had mentioned that you had just had chemo on Tuesday and that you weren't sure you would be able to make it. I am so glad you did. I bought a CD after the show and then three more when we got home on Itunes. Every day when I hear the words I feel hopeful. Thank you for bringing the hope back into our lives. I hope your treatment ends quickly and the tumors disappear again- your body seems to do well fighting this. You and your family will be in our prayers. Thank you again for your inspiration.

Hope you are doing well. I heard that the tumor came back. Hope it was not true.
I retired from the UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in late Nov and moved to Greenbrae, CA to be closer to grandchildren. I work 2 days/wk at Kaiser Permanente's Redwood City Hospital seeing brain tumro patients. The other time I am writing, doing work on the house, some pharma consulting, and watching the GC play sports or play in orchestra/band. Its a good life.
Best wishes,
Victor

Thank you so much David. You will live forever in my heart and soul! Your personal stories and songs are helping me to help my Jimmy, diagnosed with Glioblastoma IV in December, 2008, and my patients at the Cancer Treatment Center of America. Thank you so much!

My mother was diagnosed with a glioblastoma December 26, 2009. She was in what we thought was great health, took a daily multi-vitamin and had just had her annual physical. We were so blessed to go to Duke and are now in a clinical trial with Dr. Reardon (after meeting with Dr. Henry Friedman). Mia (as her grandchildren call her) is an inspiration to me, she is a fighter, her faith is stronger by the day. I have been listening to the Alive and Well CD and just want to say Thank You for your sharing it. We are new to this fight and we thank you so much for your message of HOPE.

Hi! I met you in Utah several years ago at an NCD conference--then again at General Assembly in 2008. Your music and stories are an inspiration to me and I try to share them with others. Last night I used Alive and Well, Live Forever, as part of our Stephen Ministry training--Just want you to know that your gifts have given us hope--hope to share with people who are hurting--and courage to redirect our lives as we answer the question "What now?" David,
We met you many years ago (about 98)at NWMC. I gave your CD to our daughter and she still listens to it. Later she developed Crohn's disease. She is getting ready to get married and is a little scared. She remembered you and found this page. She got so excited. Thank you for being an encouragement to her and many more, I'm sure. God bless you very much in your life and ministry.

Hi!
Just wanted to say that during my visit to Duke and my great meetings with Dr. Reardon and his staff two months ago, they gave me copy of your disc and a referral to your website.
Just wanted to say how incredibly inspiring you, your music and your story are! I also had a brain tumor (stage 4) a year and a half ago, and (thank god!) am doing extremely well. I'll definitely be attending the conference in March in Washington DC and am looking forward to hearing your live performance and meeting you then.
Best,
Ellen

Just wanted to let you know that ten years ago a Christian friend introduced me to your music during an extremely difficult divorce and move across the country with 3 small children. It made such a difference - you are an inspiration. Your music is still a comfort. Thank you.

Hello David:
I finally was able to see and hear you in person in Winter Garden Theatre on January 24, 2010. You were greatly inspiring and I enjoyed every minute of your music and you singing and playing along with "The Boys in The Woods". What I experienced in that evenin will stay with me forever. It was a beautiful example of an ecumenical community joining to make the world a better place. If only 1/4 of the world did what Pastor Scott is doing, what a wonderful world it would be. I was sitting directly behind Pastor Scott and had the pleasure of meeting him and his loving wife during the performance...My husband and I stayed til the end. What a gift you gave to The Boys in the Woods and I am looking forward to hearing their CD album. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and I pray the good Lord heals you like He did so many times in the Bible. so that you can continue to bring your kind of love to more people. I saw your schedule....my!!!!how do youdo it. Your stamina is unbelievable...continue what you love but please take care of yourself and your family also. I have you always in my prayers as well as your family. God Bless and Keep you always in the Hollow of His hand. Fondly, Jeanne Therese Vermette (2001 benign meningioma survivor).

We have just received the latest news and prayer request through Ed and Penny Stanley. Through
your witness and advice we went to Duke for my
husband Kevin.
We are praying and asking for more prayers from
our staff and friends and family.
As I opened your websight and saw the words I knew you knew "EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT".

Please feel free to call for prayer anytime.
Leslie, know I am praying for you also.

Hi David. I am so happy that I came across your website. My father was diagnosed with GBM IV in December 2008 (the year of the terrible ice storm in New Hampshire and Mass). He had surgery and underwent Chemo and radiation therapy in January/February of 2009. He was doing great with little deficits, just numbness in his left leg. Things all changed in July 2009. He had his first seizure and lost some mobility. He was cognitively doing pretty good and walking with a walker. He then had 2 more seizures with his last one being in Oct 2009. The hospital sent him home with hospice care and he passed away peacefully in his home with family. I was very blessed to have such an amazing father and for him to be in my life for 33 wonderful years. I will miss him terribly, but he will never be forgotten. I pray that we will find a cure for cancer and I plan to walk in the Brain Tumor walk in Boston this coming October 2, 2010 in memory of my father Jim Bliss. Thank you for being such an inspiration to many people and I wish you the best in your fight.

Wow! I came across your website as I was looking for "survivor stories". My husband was diagnosed with GBM in August 2009. After surgery, radiation and now getting ready for the 3rd round of Temodar, my husband is doing well but we are still scared for the future. Your story is such an inspiration! I know God sent me to your site for a reason! Thanks for the HOPE!

How I found this site is just another answer to prayer. My husband was diagnosed with GBM Nov. 14th 2009. It is inoperable. He's receiving radiation and Temador. It was cool to see that you were in on clinical trails for Temador. My husband is 63 years old, but not a day over 21. Our plan is to keep on keepin' on. Your story was a welcome and refreshing story in the midst of what many would say can not be. I pray you have inmeasurable days of joy and health. God Bless You and Thank you.

Hoping for the very best news with your next MRI. You have beat the GBM beast already, and it seems to be weaker each time it reappears. In the meantime, you're such an inspiration and comfort by how you live your life. Thank you...

David,
My father was diagnosed with GBMIV on the 2nd of this month, Dec. 2009 (halfway through initial treatment). It was a heartbreaking day, but every day since has gotten a little less chaotic. Your life makes me have more faith. Your passion and will to fight remind me of my father. Bless both your hearts and keep beating the beast!!

You are an inspiration. My husband was diagnosed with GBM in May 2008 with a life expectancy of 5 - 6 months. He is still heere and doing well, they let him skip his chemo this month. It is a very tough situation on the family. We go to Memorial Sloan Kettering and have found the doctors there very helpful. I only hope a cure is found....

Hi David, we saw you perform at the Pencer Cancer Centre open house on October 30th. You were amazing and your stories and songs of faith, hope and love were truly inspiring. We enjoyed it so much, we bought 5 of your CD's and listen to them daily. My husband would have bought more, but we didn't bring enough money! We were so moved by your performance that we have included a link to your website on our CaringBridge site (www.caringbridge.org/visit/lilliana) in the hope that others will visit and be inspired like we were. We hope you enjoyed your time in Canada and are liking your new Canadian vest. Don't be a stranger, eh? P.S. Is Canadian Starbucks as good as U.S.? You should have tried Tim Hortons. Then you would be drinking coffee like a true Canadian. Take care, and keep on keeping on!
PPS... We apparently have a mutual friend. I just met this amazing woman named Barb Clarke who knows you and is a big fan. She was sorry she missed you in Toronto, so I have to say hi for her as well.

about a year ago, or maybe longer than that, one of my daughters, Joni Deckert, from Bradenton, now at FIU in Miami, had told me that she had come to know you personally, told me all about it proudly and gave me CD of yours and I loved it, took it back home to Germany, and since then i had listened to it a lot, not for the last three, four months or so. Now, just about two hours ago, driving back from Italy to my hometown of Stuttgart in Germany, i listened to it again on the way, driving through the alps in Austria while the sun was setting, it was just absolute happiness to hear you sing in my car. Now it is late at night and I just sent an e-mail to Joni to ask her if she knws anything new about you, and she might actually try to send me a reply just this very moment, whilst I just typed your name into Google and found all this info and that you already have 15 cds out etc. I will definetly have Joni bring cds over to germany for me when she visits me next, Just wanted to say thank you for your music for now. it is simply wonderful

David, My brother, Steve White, was diagnoised in April 09 with GBMIV. He is now going thru the Duke program from Charlotte NC. It has been a stressfull 6 months but you have brought HOPE back to us all, especially, Steve. He got to see you in Statesville, NC on 10/11. You have really made a difference in his life and he now wants to live instead of dying. He mailed us your Alive & Well DVD/CD and I was totally immersed in your words and music. What a miracle you are. Thank you for your giving heart during a trying time. God bless you and your family!!

Hi, David -
My husband, Jeff, is 45 y.o. and was diagnosed w/a GBM on Aug. 13th, 2009. Since then, he has had two craniotomies (we jokingly call him the founding member of the "Craniotomy-of-the-Month Club"), and is in the midst of his Temodar/radiation treatment right now.
Please know that if your travels ever take you to the Portland, Oregon area, you are a welcome guest in our home any time.
Christ's blessings are clearly upon you, but it never hurts to pray that more come your way. :-)

David-
Reading your blog has been incredible for me. On September 4th, my Mom had a seizure in my arms in Cincinnati, OH while I was visiting from Charlotte, NC. Within the next 48 hours they found a tumor and successfully removed it on September 9th. She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma on September 10th. The last month has been a battle but our family has been so supportive and Mom has kept her head up with a positive attitude at all times. She started Radiation and Chemotherapy on October 6th and had and MRI on October 8th that showed new cancerous blood vessels surrounding the site of the surgery and tumor removal. They ordered for a portal to be installed on Thursday October 15th to administer three Avastin treatments over the next six weeks. On Friday October 9th, she surprisingly had five seizures and was readmitted and her wound broke open. They fixed it and are holding off on radiation until she heals again. We're keeping a positive attitude and hoping she has a story like yours in eleven years! Thank you for your strength and hope, your page is incredibly motivational to my family in Ohio!

I fell upon your website on evening. I love your music. My husband was diagnosed on June 28th 2009 and our life has changed. he is too young... we are so scared but we don't talk anymore. This disease has taken a piece of him every day. Yes there is a lot to celebrate, he is alive but I am so afraid of our future. How do I continue this journey alone without touching him like a wife should that piece is gone. I just want to thank you for taking the time to read this. He goes for his first MRI after treatment on Oct. 15! I pray for hope and peace, and love.

David, it has been a long time since I have been in touch, but have spent this evening catching up on your site. Just visited the BT Clinic at Duke last week with my daughter, Katrina. Ya'll continue to share marvelous milestones - being diagnosed a month apart, enduring Henry/Allen's monoclonal treatment and isolation (even in the same room on 4th floor for that isolation), suffering the same vision loss, and, most importantly, still surviving and living 'LIFE" as fully as possible. Katrina went way out on a limb and pushed the envelope - as Duke has often accused her of doing!! - and not only got pregnant, but delivered a perfectly normal son in July 2008. We joked that he just might be born with little pointed ears and a long tail, resembling one of Henry's nude mice!! Katrina finally convinced Allen to operate in 2005 and remove the mass of necrosis that had been accumulating following the monoclonal, which continued to cause more frequent seizure activity. Biggest news - NO cancer found in the tissue removed - but, wound didn't heal (due to radiation, chemos, steroids) and had to be redone, using artificial covering for the dura and titanium for skull plate and boney matter. She hasn't had a headache or seizure since, and was able to completely go off the constant steroids. Did have to have a shunt implanted about a year later - but, all things considered, everything is great!! Miss seeing Henry - but did get to see Mary Lou last week so she could see Katrina and son, Trystan. Always enjoy your pictures with the "Big Guys" at the BT ANGELS AMONG US walk. Wish I could participate - but continue to pour my efforts into our local RELAY FOR LIFE, where I always have a luminaria for you. Keep on keeping on and connecting with so many who need to hear your story and your music. Would like to get to a concert again - my one and only was years ago in Lexington, VA. I will keep checking the schedule. Blessings for you and your family.

Hey david,
Long time. So I was showing one of my students (yes, I'm teaching...scary, huh) anyway, showing a student named Courtney a few of your songs on YouTube and he was all "we've got to get him here!" So what do you say? Southeastern Wisconsin could use a little hope, faith, love and coffee.
Forever your friend,

HI David, It is funny when you feel like you know someone, but they don't have a clue who you are. I am on my way to Madison, WI this morning so I can be there for my son, David, who will have his avastin in the morning. He is such a gentle, kind, peaceful kind of guy. You would like him. I am listening to your new album; it is such a gift to my heart. Thank you. If I can talk him in to it, I think I need to take him to Duke. He is feeling ok right now and doesn't want to leave his life in Madison. He is 27, my youngest child.

I saw your concert on Friday night in West Des Moines.I was sitting in the front row with my friend, Joan. We both have young sons diagnosed with cancer. Joan's son David has the same diagnosis as you. His surgery was last November. My son was diagnosed with a sarcoma 3 years ago and had a below knee amputation. We are lead by our boys who definitely keep on walking and your music and poetry certainly motivate us as moms to live with hope and enjoy the time! Thank you for your generous gift! You certainly uplifted us!God Bless you David!
I work at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, IA. It is my hope we can get you on our schedule in the near future! You are amazing! Blessings on your day!

Hi David, I saw you at the ABTA meeting in Chicago and was THRILLED to see you. (I was completely aggravated by the staff clearing tables, etc. during the performance. I told them too!) Nevertheless, I am looking forward to seeing you again in Des Moines on Friday night. My son, David, was told GBM but since his move to the U of WI, that has been changed to oligodendroglioma. I am tempted to journey to Duke with him. He is only 27, was diagnosed at 26. Thank you for sharing the whole thing. It helps. Peace and Grace, Joan

David,
You sang at our church this Sunday. I was so moved I went home and downloaded your Cd to my I phone.
When my 11 old son asked why I did this, I gave him a small smile and said "I was moved" thinking he would not get it. He looked in my eyes and said "you have to tell him" So I'm telling you. God is calling me back. He speaks through your songs. Thank you

A friend of mine found the information on you and your concert in Bound Brook in October. I was just diagnosed with the same tumor at the very end of July. I am going through both chemo/radiation at Overlook Hospital in summit. I am doing well and I am looking to the future to create a new life with this new addition. I have a 24 years old son and a 9 year old daughter. I am also a musician. I am a singer, went to Westminster Choir College. I have not sung in may years 10 or more but maybe that will call again for me. My whole family and some friends will be at you BB concert. I can't wait.
All we have is what we make of it and I intend to make the most out of the rest of my life. Peace, LOVE and being happy.

I viewed your Duluth, Ga. dvd, which was given to me at Duke when we were setting up my treatment plan.
I had a GBM removed in April and completed radiation treatments on Jul 9. Dr Friedman also prescribed Timodar and avastin with the radiation. The treatments are given in Atlanta but Duke sets the protocol.
Just wanted to thank you for sharing your message of hope. I wish you the best in all ways.

David,
I saw you do an interview and performance on Kare 11 in Minnesota a while back and was so happy to hear your survival story. My father was also diagnosed with grade IV GBM 22 years ago. He was given 6 months and lived 20 years. The cancer did return 2 years ago and he has now passed. I always asked my dad what kept him going in life and he said it was his spirit and willingness to live. I'm very appreciative of the hope that you are spreading for other brain tumor patients.

HI...... got your CD "Life" several years ago, after a concert in newburyport, MA, Old South Presbyterian church..... have enjoyed it greatly ever since, and find lots of inspiration to keep on going!
Ross Varney, pastor of a nearby church that feels like we're going uphill lots of the time, as are many of the traditional churches.
p.s. I will remember you in my prayers; I do a wee bit of composing myself, but have not given up the "day job" yet!

Hello David,
I heard you singing this past Sunday in Montreat and loved your music. I especially liked the song about the Trinity. It actually reminded be of the book The Shack.
My family and I usually spend one or 2 weeks in Western North Carolina each summer and I feel blessed to have heard your music.
Your story is amazing. I will keep you and your ministry of music in my prayers.
Blessings,

Hey Dave, Want to thank you for your new CD "Love". I have listened to it and have loved each tune. I love seeing you come thru the checkpoint at Charlottesville/Albemarle Airport, where you gave me the cd the other day. I knew there was something "special" about you and know why now. You are a "Man of God" and that just lights my day. You are a tru blessing with your music, message and your strength. I will be preying for you and looking forward to seeing you at the airport again, saying "come on in Dave, where are you headed today? Keep that lovely smile of yours and the Godly spirit I see in you. See you soon.

Hey David,
I was recently diagnosed with GBM back in 2/09 and have had surgery, radiation, and chemo. One of my friends said to check you out and has started to turn me on to your music. I love it. Keep rockin'! I am a family doc out on the Big Island of Hawaii. If you ever want your tour to extend out this way let me know. Or if you want a vacation, we have a sweet place in downtown Hilo. The big island is a great place for healing the mind, spirit, and body.

I was so blessed by your recent concert at Holland's United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC. My husband of 30 yrs died 7 years of mantle cell lymphoma cancer when our daughter was only 8 years old. I understand from a care givers perspective the HARD journey you are walking. I am amazed by your love of the Lord which is so beautifully reflected in your music. Many of the songs touched my spirit, which is still so sore even now. God Bless You. Gwen Hobby

Hi David and Leslie,
We really enjoyed meeting you yesterday at UVa clinic. You were both topic of conversation on our drive home. Inspiration is what we needed and you delivered! Truly the Lord brought us together to give us the hope and determination to continue fighting this GBM. We love the CD. Thank you for your generosity and time! Hopefully there will be another time we meet up again. God Bless you, Leslie and kids!
